Stonehenge Visitor center
Following a competitive tender exercise Firmingers were awarded the role of quantity surveyors on this prestigious project.
The £27.5m project involves the construction of a new visitor centre and ancillary building at Airman’s Corner, the closure of the A344 and the removal of the existing car parking and visitor facilities adjacent to the stones.
Prior to the submission of the planning application extensive surveys and reports were commissioned to inform the design process and ensure that the building would not compromise underlying archaeology.
The design is approaching RIBA Stage F.
Government funding has been withdrawn but additional lottery funding has been secured and other alternative sources are being investigated.
The sensitive nature of the site and the high profile of the project have brought interesting challenges.
